João Pedro Vale & Nuno Alexandre Ferreira - Semiotics of the CodSemiotics of the Cod is an artistic project that examines the historical, economic, and symbolic ties between Portugal and Norway through the cultural lens of bacalhau, Portugal’s iconic dried cod sourced from Norwegian waters. Through research undertaken during a residency in Skrova, the artists deconstruct the myths surrounding this national dish and reveal how it reflects broader dynamics of capitalism, identity, gender, and social relations. The accompanying publication, designed as part of the project, extends these themes, offering further insights and archival material that deepen the investigation within the installation space.
